Our Troublesome Bodies

1961年札幌生まれ. 1984年武蔵野美術大学油絵学科卒。都内で数回の油彩画の個展の後、1991年東京にてパフォーマンスアートを始める。1997年にポーランドのCastle of Imaginationに参加、以来、欧米やアジアなどで作品を発表。同時頃にグラフィックワークとしてのドローイングを始める。後にそれはパフォーマンスアートに関連づけられる。2016年、パフォーマンスアートの資料アーカイヴを始める。
物質であり、時間としての身体を美術にする。その実践として、近年は「エコロジカルな地域性」とその「エレメンタルな物質」、そして「交換」「往復」「循環」といった、人の生活の基本行動をミニマルに突き詰めたアクションを行っている。サイトスペシフィックにその時の空間と時間の意味と関わり、解像度高く感知し、即興的に場を問い、一つの経験的なパフォーマンスを作ることに集中している。人というトラブルの多い身体にとって、何がそのように人を動かすのか、そして、何がそれを困難にするのかといった、人々の社会的、政治的行為である「交流」「闘争」についても考察する。
1961 Born Sapporo, Japan. 1991 Started performance art in Tokyo. Graduated from Musashino Art University in 1984 with a degree in oil painting. After several solo exhibitions of oil paintings in Tokyo, 1997 participated in Castle of Imagination in Poland, and since then has shown works in Europe, the U.S., and Asia. Around the same time, she began drawing as a graphic work. Later it is associated with her performance works. In 2016, she started a material / video documentation archive of performance art.
The body as matter and as time becomes artwork. In recent years, my practice has focused on minimal actions that probe the essence of fundamental human behaviors : “ecological regionality” and its “elemental matter”, alongside “exchange”, “reversal”, and “circulation”. She concentrates on site-specific engagements, perceiving the meaning and context of each space and time with high resolution, improvisationally interrogating the site to create an experiential performance. She also examines people’s social and political actions – “interaction” and “struggle” – considering what drives human beings, these troublesome bodies, to act in such ways, and what makes it difficult for them to do so.
